Singapore Zoo Attractions
Here is concise information about Singapore Zoo:
Segregated into Play Land and Animal Land, the 3-hectare Children's World, as its name suggests, is very popular among children. A 10 minute miniature train ride connects both the parts. Children can use toys and traditional play equipments in the Play Land, while Animal Land features domesticated animals like cows, goats, sheep, pigs, horses, etc. At Pets' Corner, they can pass quality time with chickens, rabbits and other small animals. Animal Friends' show too is not to be missed.
The 1-hectare kingdom is the home of about 100 primates of 11 species, which include Hussar monkeys, lion-tailed macaques, colobus monkeys, celebes apes and capuchins. Various fish like Japanese carp and giant arapaima live in the water moats.
Enclosure for Loan Animals
In this special enclosure, rare animals are put up for a short term. Golden monkeys from China, White Tiger from USA, Brown Bears from Russia, Giant Pandas from China, and Koalos from Australia have been displayed in this enclosure.
Especially designed by the Zoo for the plant lovers, Heliconia Valley is the place where plants and animals can be viewed together. Heliconias of various colors can be sighted amidst the beautiful landscaping.
Underwater Viewing Exhibits
2.4 meter high underwater viewing exhibit allows visitors to see magnificent polar bears of the arctic regions. Lively feeding sessions are held three times everyday. A concealed dry moat has also been put up to arrange undisturbed viewing of the bears when on land.
Another viewing gallery, consisting 10 glass panels, transports the visitors to the Antarctic World. People watch Antarctic animals like sea lions and penguins playing around in simulated conditions. Daily feeding sessions are arranged for the Californian sea lions.
One can also view young and newly hatched crocodiles through the glass window of the crocodile nursery. Creatures like heron, scarlet, glossy ibises and cattle egret can also be seen.
The 1 hectare garden hosts about 400 reptiles belonging to 41 species. Apart from displaying tropical snakes, it also brings before the visitors the Komodo dragons from Indonesia, the largest of all lizards. Crocodiles and giant Galapagos tortoises are also there. Visitors can also view feared snakes like King Cobra and Rock Pythons with excitement and curiosity.
